We are very happy to announce that our campaign with This Is My Earth was a success (https://this-is-my-earth.org/2019-success-magdalena-valley-colombia/)! By the end of 2019 we raised enough money to buy and safeguard very important patches of forest in a neighboring farm (see map above). Blue-billed curassow, brown spider monkeys, jaguars and these greater grison (https://youtu.be/5SROL-JLtnA) have been seen in these forest patches. We will make sure the patches become well connected with the forests of El Silencio so that the animals can travel safely to and from those patches without exposing themselves in the deforested areas. By preserving the forest we also preserve plant, reptile, amphibian, fungi and invertebrate biodiversity that is fundamental for the ecosystems, as well as prevent CO2 emissions, soil degradation and drying. With support of our partner World Land Trust, we will continue to raise funds to save and restore forests around our reserve (https://www.worldlandtrust.org/tabs/el-silencio/).

Nos alegra mucho contarles que nuestra campaña con This Is My Earth fue un gran éxito (https://this-is-my-earth.org/2019-success-magdalena-valley-colombia/)! Antes de finalizar el 2019 logramos recaudar suficientes fondos para comprar y proteger unos fragmentos de bosque de gran importancia en un predio vecino (ver mapa más arriba). Paujiles de pico azul, monos araña cafés, jaguares y estos grisones (https://youtu.be/5SROL-JLtnA) han sido registrados en estos fragmentos. Nos aseguraremos de incrementar la conectividad de estos bosques con los fragmentos principales de El Silencio para que los animales se puedan desplazar a salvo entre ellos sin necesidad de exponerse en las áreas deforestadas. Al proteger el bosque también preservamos la biodiversidad de plantas, reptiles, anfibios, hongos e invertebrados fundamentales para los ecosistemas, así como también prevenimos las emisiones de gases de efecto invernaddero, la degradación de los suelos y la desecación del ambiente. Gracias al apoyo de nuestros socios de World Land Trust continuaremos recaudando recursos para proteger y restaurar más área de bosque alrededor de nuestra reserva (https://www.worldlandtrust.org/tabs/el-silencio/)

Increíbles noticias: somos los nuevos aliados de World Land Trust en Colombia para expandir la Reserva Natural El Silencio en 482 ha de bosque húmedo tropical del Magdalena medio, con el apoyo conjunto de IUCN NL y la empresa Tennis. Esto es sin duda el logro y el apoyo más importantes que hemos conseguido en la historia de la Fundación. Fernando Arbeláez acaba de participar en nuestra primera reunión de aliados de WLT en Thetford, UK, e intercambió experiencias con otros aliados que realizan un increíble trabajo por la conservación alrededor del mundo. No podríamos estar más orgullosos :)

Amazing News: we are the new partners of World Land Trust in Colombia to expand our El Silencio natural reserve in 482 ha of tropical moist forest of the Middle Magdalena Valley, with the joint support from IUCN NL and Tennis clothes company. This is certainly the most important achievement and support we have reached in the history of the foundation. Fernando Arbeláez just attended to our first WLT partner meeting in Thetford, UK, and exchanged experiences with other partners who carry out an amazing conservation work around the world. We couldn't be prouder :)
